The Kern County coroner reported that at approximately 7:24 p.m., Anabel was riding in a Honda when it was hit by a Chevrolet driver at the intersection of South Union Avenue and Hosking Avenue. A driver has been taken into custody after colliding with a vehicle occupied by Anabel and an 11-year-old boy, with suspicions of impaired driving.
Anabel was transported to Kern Medical, where she subsequently passed away.
A serious injury has been reported involving an 11-year-old. His status remains unclear at the moment.
Bakersfield police indicated that high speed and alcohol were likely contributing factors.
BPD’s investigation found that the Chevrolet driver was heading north on S. Union Avenue while the Honda driver was turning left into the northbound lanes at the time of the collision.
A Chevrolet driver was arrested by the BPD on charges of DUI, reckless driving, and gross vehicular manslaughter, as he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The police have not disclosed his identity at this moment.
