The Chandler Ostrich Festival began in 1989 and is an event that has grown to become one of the premier festivals in the southwest. With 250,000 to 350,000 people attending the three-day celebration each spring, the Ostrich Festival is something everyone looks forward to.

The festival is known as a family event that features live ostrich races and ostrich-themed activities. They also have local entertainment, carnival midway, spectacular food, upscale arts & crafts, and even a Saturday morning parade. It takes place this weekend March 9th-12th and is a great way for Hamilton High school students to kick off their spring break! One student, Nico Osorio (9), stated that he is attending the festival saying “I’m pretty excited, I’ve gone the last couple years and it’s always fun.” This event is set to be bigger and better this year because the festival is actually celebrating 30 years of this special event.

In addition to bringing in several well known musical groups, there will also be performances by dozens of regional community groups throughout this weekend that will perform music, dance, and other talents. Philip Witter (11) said that he enjoys events like this and stated “It’s always a night to remember.” Although there are many appearances, teenagers mostly go for the thrill of the rides. Some rides they have include the Fireball and the famous spinning swings. Another student, Taylor Gidnelsberger (12), stated that she is planning on going this Saturday. She commented that “I’m planning on going with some friends, if you haven’t gone yet or aren’t planning on going I would definitely recommend it!” Grab your friends and family and get ready for some fun at this year’s festival!
