The title of Batman has been passed on through the years from the great late Adam West to the more recent Ben Affleck. Most of the recipients of the mantle blew fans away with their accurate and compelling take on the dark knight, such as Michael Keaton and Christian Bale. But some couldn’t live up to the legacy, such as Val Kilmer and George Clooney. It is too early to say which group Robert Pattinson will fall into, and whether or not he’s actually been confirmed for the caped crusader. Matt Reeves new Batman movie has been in development for quite a while, with Ben Affleck originally directing and starring as the main character in the film.

Student Zahari Brisbane (10) said, “I know that guys played a bat related character before but I don’t know if he can have the feel of Batman or Bruce Wayne. I really want a dark, brooding Batman, like Bale or Affleck in Dawn of Justice and I don’t know if Pattinson can deliver.” The “bat related character” Zahari mentioned was of course Pattinson’s early role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight film series. Afflecks portrayal as the Gotham City vigilante was questionable, but many praising his ability to show the intensity of the character in Dawn of Justice but that couldn’t make the film any more bearable to watch. On the other end Andrew Barro (10) said, “I don’t feel like judging him quite yet. When Keaton got casted people didn’t want him to be the Batman and look at him now. He was one of the best Batmen ever. I’m just gonna wait until after the movie comes out.” Keatons casting caused so much uproar that fans began a petition for the Mr. Mom actor to be removed from the role. But Keaton dropped jaws with his epic portrayal of the rich boy made crime fighter in Tim Burton’s Batman.

The Batman is set to be released in 2021 with no definite release date. The villain of the film is reportedly going to be the dastardly Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin. Not much has been said about that role but Frozen actor Josh Gad has voiced his interest in the role, but that’s just another rumor we just have to wait to see if it’s true.
