The 2022 Met Gala was overflowing with captivating fashion. The Met Gala is held annually on the first Monday of May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The gala was  on May 2 and fundraised for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s costume institute. It was founded in 1946 and every year since celebrities walk the steps of the museum in remarkable outfits. The event is organized by fashion magazine, Vogue and the honorary co-chairs included fashion designer Tom Ford, head of Instagram Adam Mosseri and Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour. This year’s theme was, In America: An Anthology Of Fashion, part two of last year’s theme, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. The hosts were Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

This met gala focused on gilded glamor and white tie attire which was popular during the 1870s to 90s. The theme was criticized for being inappropriate; especially since now more than ever the world is facing hardships like war and inflation. However, many attendees stayed on theme while presenting extraordinary fashion. For instance, Kim Kardashian wore Marylin Monroe’s iconic 1962 “Happy birthday Mr. President” dress by Jean Louis. Billie Eilish wore a corset gown by her usual designer, Gucci. Hailey Bieber dressed in an elegant Saint Laurent halter-neck slip gown, matched with black pantyhose and stilettos. Most unique goes to Shawn Mendes in a Tommy Hilfiger tux very similar to Beauty and the Beast type style. Not to mention, the eye-catching piece worn by host Blake Lively: a marvelous transformation dress by Versace that took inspiration from the statue of liberty. 

Although many of this year’s attendees were unable to wear fashion that associates with gilded glamor; Sebastian Stan dressed completely in neon pink by Valentino; a bold choice that made up for the absence of white tie. Vanessa Hudgens attended in a sheer goth-inspired Moschino dress, that is truly stunning. Nonetheless, the 2022 Met Gala was momentous and filled with outstanding looks.
