What is K-pop?

In the past couple years, we’ve seen K-pop become very popular globally and it definitely has impacted the world in a good way. One of the first K-pop introductions the western world got was the release of PSY’s “Gangnam Style” in 2012. Without knowing, millions of people around the world were singing and dancing to K-pop!

Now, K-pop is most commonly associated with BTS! However, there are actually hundreds of other K-pop groups which make K-pop into what it is today. K-pop is known for catchy songs and choreography. Almost every title-track made in K-pop has a choreography to go along with it. Whether it’s difficult like BTS’ “FAKE LOVE” or easy choreography like Kep1er’s “WA DA DA.” Fans tend to memorize choreography all the time, and post their progress on their social media hoping to get noticed by their favorite idols.

K-pop has gone a long way since it first started getting popular in the U.S. The two biggest K-pop groups, BTS and BLACKPINK hold some music records that so far no western artist has been able to achieve. BTS has been nominated for two Grammys and some BLACKPINK members have attended the Met Gala and performed at Coachella.

Whether you like K-pop or not, you can’t deny it has taken over the world and impacted it in a good way of course. Even though K-pop idols get hate all the time, that doesn’t stop them from doing what they love.
