The sudden departure of a prominent restaurant from Oakland to another city in the Bay Area has been reported by local news sites.
For many Oakland residents, the end of an era has come with the announcement that La Perla Puerto Rican Cuisine, a much-loved Puerto Rican eatery in the East Bay, would soon be closing its doors.
Before relocating to Castro Valley, the eatery at 3409 Fruitvale Ave. will close for good on Saturday, November 30.
Castro Valley Marketplace, 3295 Castro Valley Blvd., Castro Valley, California, 90254, is the new home for La Perla, which is moving about fifteen miles south.
Although an exact launch date has not been announced just yet, word on the street is that La Perla is hoping to open for business before the year comes to a close.
The restaurant recently updated its social media accounts with development videos of its new site, which piqued the interest of fans who are waiting for its return.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, La Perla became the first and only authentic Puerto Rican restaurant in the East Bay when it launched its brick-and-mortar establishment in 2021.

La Perla was able to bring Puerto Rico’s delectable flavors and culinary traditions to a broader audience through its remarkable evolution from a tiny operation to a devoted restaurant.
Locals who frequent the area will miss La Perla’s excellent Mexican fare and friendly service much when the Oakland branch closes.
