Going Back To School During A Pandemic

Going Back To School During A Pandemic

During the last school year the now widely known Covid-19 Pandemic closed down the whole country sending us all into quarantine. Kids were forced to continue school online and were all immediately given passing grades for the semester. From March to October Families stayed inside and rarely went out and when they did they started wearing face masks and they began to social distance. We all stayed secluded from other people. 5 months after schools shut down they restarted online. Kids got moved to the next grade and started learning virtually through online meetings and assignments. Eventually the schools finally reopened.

We started wearing face masks to school and sanitizing every time we walk into a classroom. The desks are all spread out throughout the classroom to prevent kids from being too close to each other and spreading viruses.  As it was my very first day at Hamilton I didn’t even have some sort of expectation for the first few days of school. Hundreds of kids are constantly walking around all trying to keep at a safe distance. Athletes have to exercise with face masks on and try to prevent contact with each other. Tables in the cafeteria are limited to certain amounts of people and as a result kids are sitting on the hallway floors.

Going to school during the pandemic is exactly what will help us fight the pandemic and go back to our normal lives. Or, it could result in the pandemic worsening, but that’s a risk the kids at Hamilton High School are willing to take.
