Hamilton’s New Mindfulness Program

Hamilton’s social work team has taken a holistic view of the students’ well-being, and has launched a new Mindfulness program to support the emotional and mental health needs of students. Through donations, support, expertise, and guidance from families, community members, and Mindfulness experts, Hamilton is now able to provide this service to Hamilton students. Students who attend sessions at the Mindfulness Center will benefit from learning relaxation techniques they can incorporate in their everyday routine to alleviate stress.

Mindfulness involves being aware of our thoughts, emotions, and why we do what we do.  It means being in the moment and paying attention to what is happening in the ‘here and now’ with openness and curiosity, instead of focusing on our past memories or future predictions. Mindfulness involves acceptance of our feelings in a non-judgmental way.

The benefits of Mindfulness include: Increase focus/concentration in school and other activities, Improve mental health and well-being, Develop insight and self awareness, Build healthier relationships (improve social skills), Help regulate emotions (reduce impulsive behaviors), Increase feelings of empathy (imagining others experiences), and create HAPPINESS!!

The Mindfulness Center will open the first day of school after we return from Fall Break and is open to all Hamilton Students. Up-to 20 students can attend during each lunch period once a week in Room E223. The room is facilitated by Social Workers, Mrs. Rastogi, Ms. Julianne and ASU SW Intern, Mrs. Shelley. Sign up sheets will be available outside Room E223 every morning.
