Jacob’s Winter Break Reflection

Jacob Nguyen

My winter break was the most different from any year in my life. There were only a few things that stayed the same. For my sleep, I was able to stay up to 1 a.m. and still wake up with nine hours of sleep. I was glad that I didn’t have to wake up with an alarm clock at 6 a.m. For most of the break, I spent time at home and enjoyed my break with entertainment. But everything relating to celebrating the holidays has pretty much changed mostly due to the Coronavirus.

Due to the Coronavirus, the holidays were definitely not as exciting. Before the virus, my family spent Christmas by having a very large party with large amounts of gifts. But during the break, I wasn’t able to celebrate at all. For New Years, I just stayed up watching television until it hit midnight with no gatherings. Though, it was nice to hear people celebrating with fireworks.

For what I did at home, I read manga, watched YouTube videos and focused much of my time on playing piano. With the abundant amount of time I had, I finished learning a piece of music, and I am now working on another. I also enjoyed playing video games with the benefit of having large, holiday updates which introduced decorations and sales.

For my New Years Resolution, I would like to play piano everyday and learn to read sheet music better. Next semester, I would like to keep my good grades that I had in the previous semester, and I’m looking forward to seeing my friends again if we get back to in-person schooling. As for the future of 2021, I hope that we will be able to combat the coronavirus by respecting our social distancing guidelines to make this year better than the last.
