Chandler Unified School District gets together with other school districts to go against the vaping industry on Sept. 15, 2021.

A company called Juul Labs is the largest producing company of e-cigarettes. Juul Labs targets teens and children as their main sellers. After Juul started selling e-cigarettes, the tobacco usage in teens went up by 40 percent. A study conducted by the Stanford University School of Medicine said that Juul advertising is directed at teens which incentivizes teens. This caused an 80 percent increase in teen vaping and a 50 percent increase in middle school vaping.

The districts face great losses financially due to illnesses from vaping. Juul gives easy access to e-cigarettes and with their advertisements and new flavors, it became appealing for teens to give it a try and then eventually get addicted to it. Student vaping has been causing many changes and illnesses in the teens. Juul e-cigarettes are used in high school bathrooms and students call it “The Juul room.” There have also been really bad illnesses from vaping coming up in high school students. Schools are taking many precautions to stop vaping such as not installing bathroom doors or shutting down the bathrooms. Teachers are also getting special training as to what to do if they come across a student vaping.
