Chandler Unified School District expects the number of students that attend public schools to drop in the next 10 years.
Although new housing will be added to Chandler, the number of students attending public schools will go down due to the fact that the people staying are older. Younger families are looking to stay in Maricopa due to the lower house prices. There are also less options in Chandler because of less space to build housing so young families are going to Maricopa to look for more options.
In the 2021-2022 school year, there are 44,000 students attending CUSD schools which is an increase of only 28 students from last year. In 2030, CUSD is predicting that there will be 42,844 and 6,400 of these students will live outside of the district. Another reason for this could be that each year, the birth rate is dropping. If the birth rate is dropping, then there will be less children to attend schools and eventually, the numbers in CUSD schools will go down. Public schools should do something to encourage parents to stay.
