On May 4, 2022, Governor Doug Ducey signed Senate Bill 1239 to expand Interstate 10. $400 million is being used to fund this project. The bill was created due to the danger posed by traffic jams on certain parts of the I-10.

Many of these traffic jams occur on Wild Horse Pass Corridor between Chandler and Casa Grande. The Wild Horse Pass Corridor only has two lanes, which slows down freight transport. The main goal of this project is to add a third lane to the Wild Horse Pass Corridor.

SB-1239 was sponsored by Representative TJ Shope (R-Coolidge). The bill had bipartisan support.

On May 4, 2022, Shope tweeted, “I was honored to Sponsor this legislation and I can’t wait for construction to begin!” The expansion will begin in 2023.
