The Kohinoor Diamond is one the most famous diamonds. It is one of the 2,800 stones on the Queen’s crown. The diamond was mined during the Kakatiyan dynasty which occurred between the twelfth and fourteenth centuries in modern-day Andhra Pradesh. It was first in the possession of the Mughals, then the Persians, then Afghanistan, and now currently the British. Landed in the hands of the British during the annexation of Punjab.

Kohinoor Diamond was first presented to Queen Victoria by the company. In the crowns of Queen Alexandra and Queen Mary in 1937 the gem was set before being placed in Queen Mother’s crown. During 1953 the Queen Mother wore part of the crown to her daughter’s coronation. Since then, governments in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India have all laid claims to the diamond. In 1947 on India’s independence the government asked for the gem back and other demands on Queen Elizabeth’s II coronation day. There are no plans made by the British currently to give back the gem any time soon, it is a very slim chance it will be given back.
