Wells are Running Dry in Drought

Workers with the water district in Wenden, Ariz., saw something remarkable last year. They put a camera down a well and saw that the water was moving.

The issue with this is that that water is meant to be  stored for thousands of years. The water was moving because it was being pumped out of the ground by a neighboring well. It is owned by Al Dahra. This is a United Arab Emirates based company farming alfalfa in the SouthWest.

“Well guys and I have never seen anything like this before.” Saiter told CNN. The farm was pumping and sucking the water through the aquifer. Now frustration is growing in Arizona’s La Paz County, as shallower wells run dry amid the Southwest’s worst drought in 1200 years. Many of this is blamed at the huge farms that are foreign owned. They are growing christy crops like alfalfa. They get shipped to feed cattle and other livestock overseas.
