Governor Of Florida Pushes to Ban Inclusivity Programs in State Colleges

Laila Richardson Jenkins

The Governor of the state of Florida plans and sets in motion to ban diversity programs in the state’s colleges. Gov. Ron DeSantis announces that he wants to block all programs that include and focus on diversity, inclusivity, equity and critical race theory.

Governor DeSantis in the past has highly criticized critical race theory saying that students cannot learn true academics with a political window dressing it.  To begin What is Critical Race Theory? Critical Race Theory is a cross-disciplinary examination, by social and civil-rights scholars and activists, of how laws, social and political movements, and media shape, and are shaped by, social conceptions of race and ethnicity.

In simplest terms this means addressing and studying how racism has shaped and had an impact on US laws and policies. Many conservatives try to view this concept as something that is taught for them as white people to feel guilty and to teach them that they are inherently racist which is false and not even close to what this ideology is about.

Conservatives claim they don’t want it taught in schools because it will make their children feel guilty about being white which again is not true at all. This idea focuses on teaching and educating people the topic so history will not repeat itself. Besides there isn’t even any evidence that supports that critical race theory is even taught in K-12 schools.

The closest topic regarding somewhat similar aspects to it is the topic of what happened after slavery ended for Black Americans. By cutting these programs this will stop students that are seeking diversity and inclusivity in a state that does not accept it and with a Governor that thinks learning about one’s history is too political.
