Tik Tok Banned?

December 22, 2022
On Thursday, Dec. 15. Congress proposed to ban the social media app Tik Tok from US federal government-owned devices to limit information and security risks that can come from the app. The bill has to pass through the US House Of Representatives and go to the white house to get Joe Biden’s approval but the bill is in motion.
This ban on the app within government-issued devices began to come into effect because some fear that the app may in a way get users’ information and data. Others want to ban it because they believe that the app may have a strong influence on certain topics in the country from outside forces. This caused lawmakers to not just ban the app of government devices but just generally. In 2020 former President Donald Trump tried to ban the use of Tik Tok and new users on the app but after a series of court battles, he lost. Would banning a social media app over pretense security and privacy concerns be necessary?
