The Hamilton Varsity Boys Basketball team is 13-6 as of January 23, 2019. This season, so far, has been a pretty successful one with which the Huskies went on a 4 game tear earlier this season against Alhambra (68-19), Highland (54-44), Mesa (58-54), and Desert Ridge (69-53).

The Huskies (3-2 in conference games) are currently in a close battle in the 6A Premier Basketball Standings as they are half a game behind Brophy (3-1 in conference games). The Huskies have played moderately well in conference play with their wins coming against Brophy (44-39), Perry (55-41), and Chandler (47-46). The Huskies throttled the Pumas on senior guard Tyler Curvey’s birthday; what a birthday present for him! After the big victory Curvey (12) took to Twitter thanking the Husky fans for coming out stating: “ SHOUTOUT TO EVERYONE WHO CAME AND SUPPORTED MAN! Love y’all, made my birthday special appreciate all y’all!”

Although the Huskies fell to Chandler earlier this season (47-50), the Huskies had a home crowd on their side as they faced the Wolves at home on January 22. The last time the two teams met the Huskies were ahead at half by a score of 25-19, but the Wolves outscored Hamilton by 9 points to pull away for the 50-47 victory. On January 22nd the Huskies, from the words of Drake, were “looking for revenge”. They got that that sweet revenge with a 47-46 victory over Chandler. It was a low scoring affair to start with the halftime score only being 17-16 in favor of Chandler. The Huskies came out of the gates rolling after halftime keeping a 4-7 point lead throughout most of the game, until the Wolves started to hit some perimeter shots to keep it close.

In the end the Huskies fed off the Wolves long enough to secure victory. Assistant Varsity Coach Walker stated about the game, “a dynamic duo held them off with a home win, 47-46!! Senior Hayden Quinn caged the wolves with 13 points and 9 rebounds and junior Jamar Brown hit them with 13 points and 7 rebounds”.

Coach Harris was asked how he feels the team is playing “We’re learning kind of under fire, growing up a little bit…We’re learning how to close out games. That’s a credit to our defense. They’re keeping us in games.”

After this Chandler win the Huskies will have 4 games left, 2 at home and 2 on the road. 3 of those games will be against conference opponents so make sure to come out and support your Huskies!
