After a disappointing finish in the first round of last year’s playoffs, The Huskies Varsity Hockey Team is back on the ice ready for a new season. They will be led by returning seniors Connor Manning, Carter Newlin, Hayden Manning, and Parker Culbert. The Huskies are confident and ready for the season to begin. Last year in the first round, Hamilton lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Desert Vista High Thunder. Starting Goaltender Hayden Manning (12), commented on the devastating loss. “It really affected the team hard, especially me, and it’s definitely going to be one of our big motivators this season,” he said. Manning was the goalie in that game, so it will be interesting to see how he will respond further into his season as a senior.

Under the tutelage of new head coach Peter Morris, The Huskies will look to avoid the distractions that plagued the team last year. Returning junior forward Carson Gylling (11), touched upon how the new coach can change the environment, “our team had the potential to go very far in the playoffs last year, but we weren’t a team,” he said. Players have stated their newfound optimism towards a new coach along with new opportunity. The Huskies are ready to move on from last season’s chaos, starting with the seeding tournament this weekend August 24th-25th. They play all their games at the Ice Den Scottsdale, playing the Flagstaff Avalanche the 24th. The Huskies play two games on Sunday the 25th against Horizon High and Basha High, then close out the tournament on August 30th, where they take on the Chaparral High Firebirds. Good Luck this weekend, and Go Huskies!
