First JV Football Game of the Season

First JV Football Game of the Season

Gwyn Bressler

The Hamilton Huskies have their first football game of the season at 6 p.m. Sept. 2, 2021 at Desert Ridge high school.

Last year as a freshman team, they had a record of 5-2 with a 71 percent win rate, and our current JV football players are working towards a victory for their first game of the season. Last year’s Freshman team forced 14 interceptions, averaged 127.3 yards per game rushing and forced 12 sacks per game.

Now as a JV football team, they have practiced extremely hard in preparing for this significant game, and are currently working towards winning their upcoming games against Desert Ridge, Casteel and Centennial. Xavier Newman will be the JV quarterback this season and will be in charge of leading this team to victory. Newman’s past freshman year has resulted in a total of 832 total passing yards, on a 55 percent completion rate. On top of these stats, he threw for 10 touchdown passes. With these numbers, it is likely that there won’t be any challenging teams on their schedule.

However, last year’s Freshman team still had two losses to the Chandler Wolves and the Saguaro Sabercats. The Sabercats beat the Huskies by seven points on Wednesday Oct. 21, 2021.

Despite the fact that the Huskies were close, a lot of players were unavailable for their game against the Chandler Wolves..

On Wednesday Nov. 18, 2021, the Huskies lost to the Wolves with a score of 47-20. With these numbers, it is hard to say whether this season will be an easy one, but according to Archie Griffin, an NFL football player, “It is not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.”

Because this game is away, people can get tickets online on the Hamilton Huskies website for this experience of a lifetime.
