Boys Varsity Soccer Falls Short

The Hamilton Boys Varsity Soccer really showed what they were made of during the back half of the season. They won their last eight games in a row heading into the playoffs with high hopes. In the playoffs, the Huskies won two games back to back. They beat 11 seeded Mesa High School Jackrabbits and three seeded San Luis Sidewinders. The Jackrabbits lost two to one and the Sidewinders lost two to zero.

These games were both only stepping stones for the team to reach the final four. In the semi-finals or the final four games, Hamilton was tasked with beating the Desert Vista Thunder. The winner would be put into the state championship, where they would play 13 seeded Chandler High School  The Chandler Wolves put together an astounding playoff run. Hamilton fought with all their might to hopefully pull off an upset. Eventually, they forced the game into overtime. However, Hamilton did not have enough gas in overtime and fell short of the state championship four to three in favor of the Thunder. In this competition,  Vincent Acosta notched a goal and an assist. Luke Schaefer charted a goal and Gilberto Rivera attained a goal and one assist.

A great Hamilton season resulted in a heartbreaking defeat after an incredible playoff run. Hamilton is going to be back next year in hopes of a championship. A massive “what if” is in the air currently. What if Hamilton would have won? If Hamilton would have won, they would have to face Chandler High School in the championship. This would be extremely winnable for the Huskies due to the fact that in the regular season, the Huskies trumped the Wolves in their one regular season meeting.
