Hamilton High Schools Girls Volleyball made a strong first impression for the season in their first week of games. Off to a strong start, the Varsity girls played two home games before finishing the weekend in their first tournament hosted by Chandler High School.

Concluding the first week of home games, the Lady Huskies went against Liberty High School, winning 3-0. However, the weekend was when games really picked up, playing in a tournament hosted by Chandler High School, the Huskies played a total of seven games. The tournament was hosted on Friday, Sept. 2 and picked up again on Saturday, Sept. 3. Hamilton played Friday against Highland High School, Desert Ridge High School and American Leadership Academy – Gilbert North. Following on Saturday, the Huskies played Mountain View High School, Chaparral High School, Sunnyslope High School and O’ Connor High School. The Huskies were set to play against the Perry High School team, but due to timing constraints the game was only able to go one-match, and therefore was not counted as an official game.

The weekend tournament was a successful one for the Lady Huskies! The girls won every game, in an incredible show of determination, perseverance and strength in a series of almost back to back playing.

The girls volleyball team had many standout players and performances in their first week of games. Notably though were Melia Barlow and Neomi Beach, both captains for the varsity team. Beach plays as an outside hitter and was honored as player of the match during their first game against Sunnyslope High School on Aug. 30. During the game she had 31 kills on 63 attempts, leaving her at an incredible hitting percentage of .460 percent. She also added 19 digs. Following this, Beach was named MaxPreps/AVCA High School Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 29 through Sept. 4, totalling the week with 77 kills, 34 digs, seven aces, and two blocks.

Barlow, a setter for the Huskies, was shown another key player during the first week of games. She was also awarded player of the match for Hamilton’s game against Liberty High School on Aug. 31., in which she made 37 set assists in the three matches of the game and added 14 digs, as well as 19 serving points.

After concluding the tournament, the girls had the end of a three day weekend to prepare for the first game of the next week. Traveling to Glendale on Tuesday, Sept. 6, the Huskies played their first away game against Mountain Ridge High School. The Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions stood at 2-0 before their game against Hamilton. Hamilton High School swept all three levels, Varsity taking the match in three sets, scores of 25-15, 25-8 and 25-19. The Huskies enter the week with a continued winning streak!

This successful weekend and beginning of the next week has the girls at 10-0, ranking them as the current top team in the Arizona Conference 6A. Hamilton Huskies Girls Volleyball will go on to play their next game of the second week on Wednesday, Sept. 7 back at home against the Pinnacle High School team.
