Girls Volleyball Fall Break Recap
October 26, 2022
The Hamilton High School halls emptied as the bell rang for the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the fall break. While most students planned to be away from the school for a while, the girls volleyball team would be back on the courts very soon, playing their way through the break. The Lady Huskies are at a current standing of 29-7 after this packed break, ranking them now second in the Arizona Conference 6A, Corona Del Sol remaining on top.
The Hamilton Huskies played a total of seven games over the two week break, starting with the NIKE Tournament of Champions hosted by Dobson High School. The tournament started with a game against Paul Laurence Dunbar High School from Lexington, Ky. with an outcome of a win for the Huskies, in a game of 2-1. Playing the top team next, Corona Del Sol, the girls unfortunately wound up with the first loss of the tournament, finishing the game 2-1. The second game against the Vegas team, Faith Lutheran, was unfortunately another loss of 2-0. However, the Huskies were able to pull through and conclude the tournament with a win for the team, playing Los Alamitos from California and winning 2-1.
After the tournament, the Hamilton Girls Volleyball team went on to play a few other games against more Arizona based teams. The girls played Wednesday, Oct. 5 against Xavier College Prep, Wednesday, Oct. 12 against Mountain View and Thursday, Oct. 13 against Chandler High School. Unfortunately, the Huskies first game out of the tournament was a loss, losing 3-0 to Xavier High School. Following this however were two wins, playing Mountain View High School in four sets, finishing 3-1 and Chandler High School in three sets, winning 3-0. Despite some losses, the Hamilton girls team persevered and pulled through, not letting the losses prevent them from finishing with two wins.
A stand out player during these games was Neomi Beach, a notoriously valuable part of the Hamilton team. Beach, number four, was named player of the match for the Mountain View game with 34 kills, 86 attempts with six errors and 15 digs. The Outside Hitter is a senior and has played a strong final season for the Hamilton Huskies Girls Volleyball team. Beach has a current hitting percentage of 0.345 in her total of 89 sets played this season.
The Hamilton Girls Volleyball team will go on to play two games the first week back from the break. Both home games, the Lady Huskies play Wednesday, Oct. 19 against Perry and Thursday, Oct. 20 against Basha High School. These games however could pose a potential challenge as Perry High School is currently ranked third in the Arizona Conference 6A, just below Hamilton. As the seasons close begins to draw near, the Huskies are set for some upcoming action packed games!
