A 2-year-old girl from El Salvador was apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border, informing officials that she had made the journey in search of her parents, as per a report.
A child was part of a larger group exceeding 200 migrants, including 60 unaccompanied minors, who were trying to cross the border in Maverick County, Texas, as stated by a spokesperson from the Texas Department of Public Safety in a statement released on Sunday, Nov. 24.
Footage has been made public showing the girl in a bright pink jacket, as she informs the police that she was alone during her travels.
“Did you come by yourself?” An officer is heard speaking to her in Spanish. She affirms with a nod and adds that she is heading to her “mom and dad” who are located in “the United States.”
A small yellow piece of paper with a name and phone number was also in the girl’s possession, as reported by TDPS.
A subsequent video released on the same day by the department showcased numerous underage minors, many visibly cold in light sweatshirts, as they shared their ages and countries of origin.
“I’m Brendon from El Salvador,” a young boy declares. A 12-year-old child shares that he is on his way to Los Angeles.
According to the statement, the unaccompanied minors were said to be between the ages of 2 and 17. The video emerges amidst a period of significant ambiguity surrounding the direction of immigration regulations in the United States.
The incoming president has pledged to remove millions of individuals living in the country without authorization, suggesting he might enlist the National Guard and military assets to support a large-scale deportation initiative.
