A New Orleans man is in jail this Thanksgiving after being captured in connection with what authorities describe as a massive narcotics trafficking network.
The Regional Major Crimes Task Force apprehended Thai Vu on Monday, November 24. Detectives from the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Gretna Police Department, and Kenner Police Department investigated Vu for over five months before breaking the case.
Vu was arrested on Monday near the popular junction of Dauphine and Canal Streets in the French Quarter. According to authorities, he was caught with a considerable number of illegal substances and $8,665 in cash.
The task force was able to obtain search warrants for many places in New Orleans that are reportedly linked to Vu. The task force stated that they discovered further narcotics and concrete proof linking Vu to the drug trafficking organization.
Seized drugs include:
- 368 grams of cocaine
- 6,030 fentanyl pills
- 165 oxycontin pills
- 3,587 grams of marijuana
- 3,022 grams of ketamine
- 2,092 grams of MDMA
- 107 MDMA tablets
- 807 alprazolam pills
- 30 ml of ketamine (liquid)
- 3,379 grams of psilocybin
- 122 LSD tablets
- 962 grams of THC
According to the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, the investigation is still ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
