After Killing His Wife, the Husband Asks Her Mother to Bring His Playstation Over in Their First Conversation

HPP: At his sentencing on Monday, Emma Cooley, the mother of Sydney Palmer, Michael Edgington’s wife who was shot dead by him during a domestic argument in Kansas last year, blasted her disgraced son-in-law, telling him that “she loved you” and describing how he tortured Palmer’s family with degrading acts and remarks following her murder.

When Cooley first spoke with Edgington following Palmer’s passing, she remarked, “The first thing you asked me is for the PlayStation,” according to the local website Sumner NewsCow.

She put one of the video game systems on a bench near Edgington’s seat and said, “Well, here’s your PlayStation.”

According to authorities, on July 3, just before she died, Palmer, 25, got into a disagreement with Edgington and allegedly threw a 4.04-ounce concrete figurine at his head.

According to the Sumner NewsCow, a responding officer stated in the incident record, “I could see he had a bump on his forehead.”

In retaliation, Edgington used a 9 mm pistol to trick her into falling.

“I understand I did something wrong,” he stated on Monday during his sentence, which resulted in him receiving 61 months in jail, which is considered to be around five years, for the crime of second-degree murder.

Edgington told the judge of the Sumner County District Court, William Mott, that he did not believe he posed a threat to society. As a result, the judge handed down the maximum sentence that could be handed down, along with a probationary period of 36 months.

Additionally, Edgington will be prohibited from possessing firearms from this point forward.

Additionally, Edgington apparently made the decision to get wedded at the house that he shared with Palmer, with the wedding ceremony purportedly taking place inside.

This decision, in addition to Edgington’s request for Palmer’s PlayStation, was a source of disgust for Palmer’s family.

“This is the place where you killed your ex-wife and my daughter,” Cooley stated to him on Monday. “And you have a wedding there as if she hadn’t existed.”

Furthermore, according to Cooley, Edgington constantly assured Palmer’s relatives that he was defending himself and that Palmer was ultimately responsible for her demise.

Edgington said in police interviews, “Sydney had manic episodes. A doctor recently had taken her off her medication (Vraylar) and she came angry at him for not taking out the trash. She then began breaking things inside the residence and [Edgington] told her to stop. She then took a concrete figurine and threatened to throw it at me. I told her to stop. She threw it at me and hit me in the head.”

Edgington also allegedly threw cigarettes and littered at the grave site, according to Cooley.

“She loved you,” Cooley stated to him on Monday. “Even in her last breath to law enforcement, she didn’t want to admit you killed her. She was always trying to protect you.”
