HPP: Latoya Saunders’s heartbreak was already exacerbated by the fact that her daughter had been murdered a month ago; but, the fact that she discovered something about her grave this week made the situation even more distressing.
The corner of her daughter’s purple casket was uncovered in one of the photographs that Saunders provided to the press. The photographs showed holes in the ground at the cemetery.
Emoni Randall-Rodgers, age 21, was slain by gunfire on December 9 in the city of Baltimore.
The Saunders family relocated their daughter to Portsmouth, where she attended I.C. Norcom High School and received her diploma in 2021. The funeral for Randall-Rodgers took place on December 23 at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.
Saunders stated that ever since then, she has made it a habit to pay her respects at the gravehouse that is owned by the city.
“Twice a day if it wasn’t raining,” Saunders stated in a Wednesday morning interview.
The holes in the casket of Randall-Rodgers were filled with fresh dirt by Wednesday morning, despite the fact that her photographs showed the holes and the corner of the box.
But Saunders claimed that the trauma had already been created by the situation.
According to her, the holes in the casket of Randall-Rodgers were evidence that the casket was placed too close to the surface to begin with.

“You could touch the top of her vault,” Saunders stated. “That’s unacceptable. It’s disrespect.’
Saunders stated that her daughter was the victim of a tragic situation in which she was caught up with a man who had threatened her life and then tragically carried out his threat. As a result of the circumstances surrounding her grave, fury has been added to the tragedy.
“I can’t sleep, I can’t eat [and] some days I can’t even focus,” she stated.

In spite of the fact that Portsmouth owns the cemetery, a spokesman stated that the burials are handled by an independent contractor.
With that being said, Saunders has stated that Lincoln Memorial will not serve as the final resting place for her daughter.
“I told them I want my daughter removed,” Saunders stated.
