Alabama Woman Explains Why She Left Her Deceased Husband at the Hospital

HPP: An Alabama woman made news on New Year’s Day 2025 when she drove away after dropping her spouse off at the hospital, causing rumors, accusations, and uncertainty.

Currently incarcerated in the county jail, Genesis Tanksley is suspected of shooting her husband, Lazarus Tanksley, to death following what witnesses say was an altercation.

Genesis, however, maintains that she has been falsely accused.

Genesis described the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death in an exclusive interview from behind bars. She claims that a suspicious man approached the couple as they had just arrived to Lazarus’s house. He was 5′ 8″ and had a deeper complexion, according to Genesis.

Allegedly, the individual attempted to ask for a ride in the backseat of Genesis’ vehicle. Anarchy broke out a few moments later.

“Lazarus came to the right side of the door, and he opened it,” Genesis said. “Then pow. The gun went off.”

She remembered the eerie scene where her spouse died from a single bullet wound to the chest. With obvious passion, she remarked, “He was already shaking, and like you could see his soul leaving his body.”

In order to get Lazarus to the hospital quickly, witnesses assisted her in loading him into the back of her vehicle. Many, however, were perplexed by what happened next: Genesis departed the hospital without remaining.

She gave this chillingly straightforward statement when asked why she didn’t stay with her husband:

“Because Lazarus was dead,” Genesis stated.

“When she said what she said, I immediately shut it down,” Carstarphen stated. “I can’t. I don’t want to hear it. I can’t take this.”

As soon as the deputies came at his door, he made a prediction about what would happen to her.

During the course of the conversation, Carstarphen informed her, “You are going to be locked up tonight, and you are going to be accused of murder.”

Genesis upholds her innocence and is convinced that the odd man who approached them is the one who is truly responsible for the crime.

To the question of whether or not she was certain in her account of the events, she responded with a solid response:

“Oh yeah, that’s what happened.”

Genesis is still being held in custody, and she is scheduled to appear in court on January 16th. Meanwhile, the community is waiting for additional information.

She portrays a complicated picture of loss, mystery, and a tragic conclusion to a love story, but her novel does not provide answers to many of the concerns that are raised.
