This weekend, the Bay Area’s coastal districts might face king tides, and to make matters worse, temperatures below freezing have been added to the forecast.
Areas along the coasts of central and northern California should expect frost and freezing temperatures late Friday night into Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service’s Bay Area office. Unprotected people and pets left outside should brace themselves for temperatures dropping into the mid-20s and lower 30s. Potentially impacted areas include plants and pipes.
San Benito County, the North Bay interior valleys and mountains, and the Cholame Hills of Monterey County are all places that could be affected by these subfreezing temperatures beginning on Friday night. On Friday night, Sonoma can expect temps as low as 35 degrees. Del Norte, Humboldt, and the Mendocino Coast are among the places that have been warned of frost.
Those living in northern California can get ready for the cold weather by taking their pets and plants inside, and by covering or draining their pipes to keep them from freezing.
Rogacheski advised listening to loved ones and neighbors to gauge how they are coping throughout the difficult times.
