Beginning with the first of the 2025 Social Security benefit payments, whether SSDI or any other benefit, the United States Administration will send an increase. This increase is named COLA and will kick in starting with the first payment in January.
So we can be sure that SSDI benefits and all other beneficiaries will have this increase. Now that we know what the amount of the percentage is, since the Administration announced it last October, we will know perfectly well what the average and maximum benefit of the disability check will be in 2025.
Likewise, any other benefit can be calculated on the basis of this percentage. It was the only official data we needed to finally know the budget we will have in 2025.
And it will not be until January of that same year until we see the increase. While it is true that we will have to wait, it is not as long as it seems. So with each passing day there is less and less time remaining to see the COLA increase in our monthly SSDI checks.
How much will SSDI checks increase with COLA 2025?
As we have said before, it will all depend on that percentage. The United States Government has decreed that the 2025 COLA will be 2.5%. Therefore, the final benefit figure will be the current benefit figure plus that 2.5%. This is a very easy math to do.
If our SSDI is $3,000, for example, as of January 2025 we will have a monthly check around $3,075. While that may not seem like a lot of money, almost $100 more every month helps beneficiaries a lot.
The maximum check, in this regard, for disability benefits will go from $3,888 per month to $4,018. A nice check, no doubt, with a substantial increase.

What will be the first Social Security payment with the added COLA?
Interestingly, the first of the 2025 Social Security payments with the added COLA may come in 2024 for beneficiaries. If we have Supplemental Security Income, regardless of whether we also have SSDI or not, our check will arrive sooner.
The payment for this benefit will not be on the 1st of January, but on the 31th of December. So if you have such a check, you will be able to enjoy the COLA a little earlier.
Of course, it is mandatory to activate Direct Deposit if you want to get this payment in the same month of December. Otherwise, the payment will arrive in January, around the 4th of that month.
As for SSDI payments, the first payment will be on January 3rd for pre-1997 retirees. Beneficiaries after that time, whether on disability or not, will have access to the check on the second, third or fourth Wednesday of that month, depending on the birthday.

What other benefits will increase with the COLA besides SSDI?
It’s not just Social Security disability benefits that will see the COLA increase in the coming year 2025. Each and every check issued by the Social Security Administration will go with the increased 2.5%. This means that if your benefit is for age retirement or some other reason you will be able to get a higher check.
Regardless of the amount of your payment, disability, age or even Supplemental Security Income, the money you get will increase. So you can get a maximum check of $5,180 starting next year for age retirement.
This will not affect negatively in most cases. That is, if we are already combining the Social Security disability benefit such as SNAP Food Stamps or with another type of check is we could get all the payments without problems.
Even so, check all the requirements well in case the Social Security Administration and the United States Government has decided to change any of them.

Will I have to pay more SSDI taxes after COLA 2025?
Social Security benefits usually have no taxes to pay. However, there are times when, depending on whether we have other income or not, we must pay some amount of taxes. In the disability case, it is true that beneficiaries may have another source of extra income.
In most cases, only having an extra source of income we should pay taxes, but it is also true that it is mandatory to exceed a threshold of benefits.
So in general there is no need to worry about this sector, but it is advisable to contact an expert on the subject to avoid problems in the future.
Likewise, if we receive Supplemental Security Income, we should not worry about it either.
In the case of collecting SSI it means that we do not have a high income and, therefore, we do not have to pay taxes. Even so, if we have an SSDI check, contacting an expert is the best solution.
