NORTH TEXAS – Most of North Texas awoke Saturday morning to temperatures at or below freezing. DFW has only had one freeze this season. It is late December, and only three other years have experienced as few freezes by this point: 1931, 1971, and 2021.
It will warm back up to the upper 50s on Saturday, another typical winter day to commemorate the Winter Solstice.
Saturday is the shortest day and the longest night of the year. Starting Sunday, the days will gradually lengthen. By the summer solstice on June 20, there will be more than four hours of daylight.
Warm days are on the way, which will be ideal for those traveling for the holidays. On Sunday and Monday, high temperatures will range from the mid to upper 60s. The most important story from the First Alert Weather Department is about Tuesday.
The day before Christmas is a popular travel day, and the roads are expected to be rainy for most of the day. Strong storms may occur, with brief periods of heavy rain.
As the front moves through, it appears that rain will continue for most of the day.
By Christmas morning, the rain will be in the east.
Another system will pass over North Texas on Thursday, bringing more rain and probably further disruptions to holiday travel. Temperatures should continue above average throughout the new year.
