HPP: Brian Nielsen is said to have been involved in the incident on December 13. According to Brian Nielsen’s family, penitentiary authorities concealed it.
To get answers from the Mississippi Department of Corrections, they are now banding together.
Nielsen was formerly housed at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility, according to MDOC’s website, but it currently indicates that he is “NOT APPLICABLE- TEMPORARY MOVEMENT- BED HELD.”
Brain Nielsen’s family claims that they are not informed about what happened to him.
They claim that they are still unsure of his whereabouts following the alleged vicious assault.
Jones and other family members called for answers from the Mississippi Department of Corrections during a press conference held on the state Capitol steps on Thursday.
Since they are unaware, Jones stated, “I want my sisters to at least know that their father is alive or dead.”
Nielsen was found guilty of several offenses, including murder, and is currently incarcerated.
According to family, Neilsen’s grandmother was contacted by a fellow prisoner who claimed that eight other prisoners had badly battered him.
The family contacted MDOC at that point, but they claim they received little to no response.
“When it first went down, they gave me the answer of; he was beaten due to drugs. When they skimmed over that fact, it was so disheartening,” Jones stated.
Only that Nielsen was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, according to the family.
They continued by saying that the employees there would not provide them with any updates or information regarding Nielsen’s status.
“My heart hurts. Although I don’t think Brian was a wonderful person, he loved his kids and treated my daughter well. All I can say is that. According to Brian Nielsen’s mother-in-law Alice Phillips, “He was a good person.”

3 On Your Side initially contacted MDOC on December 24th, but they didn’t hear back. Officials only replied that Nielsen was still alive when we contacted them again on January 6.

“We have been given the loop around far too many times. I’ve talked to the warden multiple times, and he has given me the number to the constituents’ office, and they have put me in contact with the hospital and the hospital has put me in contact with the prison. We have no answers. They continue to hide behind the same answer which is that ‘we can’t disclose that information’ despite me being the son,” Jones stated.
The family maintains that until they receive a formal report on Nielsen’s health and condition, they will keep protesting.
