Florida Father Shot Dead by 14-year-old; Suspect Arrested and Charged as Adult in Miami

A 14-year-old caught in a double shooting in Miami that killed a father of three and hospitalized another man last month is now facing adult charges.

Samas Marcellas Williams is charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder in the Oct. 11 shooting, according to Miami police.

On Tuesday, his case was moved from juvenile to adult court.

The shooting occurred just before 1 a.m. on the 100 block of Northeast 77th Street in Miami’s Little Haiti area, shortly after a witness reported that the victims had been approached by a stranger asking for a drink.

Witness Marlon Fernando Castro Martinez stated that he and four others were discussing when the stranger approached them.

“He made a sign like he wanted a drink, like beer, but we weren’t drinking beer, we were just talking,” Castro Martinez told NBC6 in Spanish.

“When we tell him no, he goes crazy and starts chasing us all around the building, going crazy with the gun in his hand,” he added.

Castro Martinez said he and two others fled, then watched as the stranger shot his relative, Robin Fernandez, in cold blood. Ring video shows the men fleeing for their lives and subsequently yelling for someone to call an ambulance.

“He fired six shots at him right here,” Castro Martinez explained. “He died instantly, with all the shots the suspect fired at his head.”

The witness stated that when his brother-in-law attempted to flee, he fell and was shot twice. Police stated that one man was murdered on the scene, while the other was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

According to the arrest report, authorities used video surveillance to follow the teen from his home to the murder scene and back. According to the report, detectives linked the adolescent to a separate strong arm robbery case, and he was detained by a robbery detective.

As per family members, Fernandez worked in construction and leaves behind three children.
