According to the sheriff’s office, a motorcycle driver was detained and charged with various offenses after leading George County deputies on a high-speed chase. According to a GCSO news release, deputies observed a motorbike turning east into Highway 98 from Ernest Pipkins Road at 11:13 p.m. on Saturday, December 21.
GCSO authorities stated that the motorbike “quickly sped east on Hwy 98 and turned on the southbound ramp of Hwy 63” when deputies noticed it lacked a license plate.
According to the announcement, the motorbike exceeded 100 mph while heading southbound on Highway 63, prompting deputies to attempt a traffic stop with flashing blue lights.
According to GCSO, the motorbike slowed and entered a turning lane before speeding and heading northbound on Highway 63. The motorcycle was traveling at around 90 mph before slowing down and entering another median crossover.
“The motorcycle then continued northbound in the southbound lanes of Hwy 63,” the GCSO release stated. “Approaching the southbound on-ramp for Hwy 63 at Hwy 98, the motorcycle slowed as if it was going to travel the wrong way down the ramp.”
According to GCSO, the biker turned again and attempted to cross the median, colliding with a GCSO car, which “caused significant damage to the driver side.” The motorcyclist then took off on foot.
Deputies then apprehended the biker, 45-year-old Ronnie Lee Moye II of Lucedale, Mississippi.
According to authorities, Moye is on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections on a felony charge and has several open warrants. GCSO had four warrants, while Lucedale Police Department had a failure to appear warrant.
Deputies arrested Moye and discovered multiple grams of methamphetamine, a misdemeanor quantity of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in his possession, according to GCSO.
Moye is now facing many criminal counts, including flight, intentional mischief, possession of a controlled narcotic, and resisting arrest. He was also cited for no tags, dangerous driving, failing to maintain lane, driving on the wrong side of the road, driving with a suspended license, no insurance, and simple possession.
According to GCSO officials, medical staff treated Moye before transporting him to the George County Regional Jail, where he is currently awaiting his initial court appearance.
