Huntsville Walmart to Close, 80 Positions Axed and Employees Facing Layoffs Before Christmas

Huntsville, AL– Walmart in Alabama to close, resulting in 80 job cuts just before Christmas

A Walmart store is set to close just before Christmas, potentially leading to layoffs for employees, as indicated in a notice submitted to the state of Alabama.

Walmart will shut down its neighborhood market located at 4226 Northwest Oakwood Avenue in Huntsville on December 20.

Last week, a WARN notice revealed that the company intends to lay off 80 employees, as reported by the Alabama Department of Commerce. Large employers must submit public notices to the state before conducting mass layoffs or closing plants, as mandated by federal law.

Walmart has yet to provide a comment on the upcoming layoffs.

Lindsey Coulter, who served as a communications director for Walmart, stated that every associate in the store would qualify for transfer. Coulter mentioned that payments would continue until March 7, 2025.

“This decision was not made lightly and was reached only after a careful and thoughtful review process,” Coulter stated in a recent announcement.
