Cedar Springs issues boil water advisory due to water pressure loss, leading to school district closure.
Cedar Springs Public Schools announced via social media that they will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday. Campus Kids is also shutting down. The district office will stay open, and transportation to and from the Kent Career Technical Center will operate as usual from the high school.
The advisory is a precautionary measure following the city’s report of a “loss of water pressure in the water distribution system due to an alarm system malfunction” on Tuesday.
All users of the Cedar Springs water system are advised to boil their water for two minutes prior to consumption. Bathing in the water is safe without the need to boil it.
A drop in pressure in a water system can allow bacteria to infiltrate the system. The boil water advisory is a precaution; no bacteria were detected in the system as of Tuesday.
Cedar Springs is taking steps to improve water pressure. Water personnel are conducting flushing operations and gathering bacteriological samples throughout the system to ensure compliance with state drinking water standards. The city plans to remove the advisory by Thursday, provided the sampling results are favorable.
The Village Learning Center in Cedar Springs will remain closed until Thursday because of the boil water advisory.
