Boeing has revealed intentions to reduce its workforce by laying off 184 employees at its Mesa facility as part of a broader strategy to decrease 10% of its global staff.
A notice was released on Monday on the Arizona Job Connection website, fulfilling federal requirements for employers to inform about mass layoffs.
A company spokesperson announced that adjustments are being made to the workforce to better align with the current financial situation and a more concentrated set of priorities.
“We are committed to ensuring our employees have support during this challenging time,” according to the statement.
The company has informed employees at the Mesa plant about the upcoming layoffs, with departures scheduled for mid-January.
Boeing announced that qualifying employees will be provided with severance pay, career transition assistance, and subsidized health care benefits for up to three months following their departure from the company.
The activities of Boeing in Arizona center around the production of helicopters, conducting flight tests, and providing support for satellite networks.
Boeing ranks as the third-largest employer in Mesa and is listed among the top 100 employers in the state of Arizona. With a workforce exceeding 4,800 individuals, the organization spans various sectors including engineering, manufacturing, finance, human resources, and more.
Boeing revealed in October that it intends to reduce its workforce by 17,000 employees, which accounts for 10% of its total staff, according to USA TODAY.
The declaration follows a year marked by safety issues regarding its commercial aircraft and labor strikes that have troubled the organization.
