Traffic was unstable on Interstate 10 near Vinton after multiple crashes caused hours of congestion.
Around 1:40 a.m., three 18-wheelers and a car were engaged in a wreck near the Texas state border, trapping drivers for hours and causing thousands of detours. The Texas Department of Public Safety said that no one was injured, but at least one of the vehicles was leaking fuel.
“We had a several-car/18-wheeler pileup on the Texas side early this morning, which stopped down the interstate in both ways at the state line. “From there, we had to reroute traffic up La. 109 to La. 12,” stated Matt Gaspard, Louisiana State Police Spokesperson.

Smaller accidents occurred on the detours along Highways 109 and 12. In one, an 18-wheeler attempted to move around traffic to avoid rear-ending a car, but this resulted in another series of crashes, bringing traffic to a halt.
Drivers have previously reported dissatisfaction with the interstate and roadway concerns near Vinton.
“I realize the traffic, and most likely the motorists, are frustrated. In circumstances like this, we simply ask them to be cool, courteous, and patient,” Gaspard said.
Schools in Starks and Vinton had to close early today due to traffic delays in the area. Around 11:30 a.m., all I-10 lanes reopened.
Gaspard predicts that drivers will need to be patient during the holiday season.
“There will be an upsurge in traffic around Christmas and New Year’s. Simply remain patient, wear your seatbelt, and avoid drinking and driving. “We’re all trying to get there alive,” Gaspard stated.
