On November 21, Long Beach celebrated the beginning of construction for 300 Alamitos, an 82-unit affordable housing initiative aimed at low-income seniors and those who have faced homelessness. A new five-story community of one-bedroom homes by Mercy Housing California will include a spacious open courtyard and recreation area, an indoor lounge, and community space, along with support services for residents.
“300 Alamitos will be a safe, dignified place seniors can call home,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “This new development underscores the City’s unwavering commitment to creating more affordable housing options and enhancing livability throughout Long Beach.”
A new initiative is set to take place at 300 Alamitos Ave., transforming a former parking lot into a facility for qualified older adults aged 55 and above. The location is next to East Village in Downtown and is conveniently close to public transportation, grocery stores, museums, a senior center, and public parks. Construction is set to wrap up in late summer 2026.
The California Land Acquisition Fund Holding I, LLC, a subsidiary of Mercy Housing, Inc., has acquired the 300 Alamitos site for $4.9 million. This purchase was supported by $5 million in state Permanent Local Housing Allocation funds from The Long Beach Community Investment Company, the City’s nonprofit affiliate.
