New Retirement Checks Are Coming - But Only if Your Disability Benefit Arrives This Year

In order to obtain the new disability retirement checks in the United States, several requirements must be met. Therefore, not all Americans with an SSDI benefit are eligible for the new Social Security payment.

Although it is true that before the end of the month of January all citizens with an accepted check will be able to get this new benefit, it is also true that the day on which we get it changes a lot the economic plans of each month.

It is not the same to get the Disability payment on the first day of the month than to get it at the end of January.

What is 100% certain is that if our retirement is after than May 1997, the payment on the 3rd is not for us. This is because the payment for Disability beneficiaries in that group will get their check on the weeks after this day, so we will have to wait.

So, with that in mind we can already start thinking that the first of the requirements to get this check is to have payment accepted before May 1997. And that is the only requirement. But there are four total December Disability check payment days, and each day has its own conditions.

Conditions for the January 3rd Disability Payment

There are two mandatory requirements to have it in the same day, as we have already mentioned. If we meet both requirements, the payment will be made to us. If we do not meet them, we may have to claim the benefit, since it should already be in our current account.

The two mandatory requirements to get the January 3rd Disability check in the very same day are:

  • Have a Disability payment since before May 1997.
  • Activate Direct Deposit.

If we do not meet both of these requirements, the payment should arrive in our checking account some weeks later. With this in mind, we can calculate that after this payment on the 3rd we will have to wait until February 2025 to get a new payment. This will mean that we will already have the 2025 COLA added to that next Disability payment.

How do I claim back Disability payments?

There are actually two ways to claim the overdue Disability payment. On the one hand, it is advisable to contact the bank. On the other hand, after contacting the bank without getting an affirmative answer, we should contact the Social Security Administration.

So, in case the bank helps us with our problem we should not do any extra steps, but if not, we will have to go immediately to the Administration. The SSA should help us if we do not have our Disability payment on time.
