Record-breaking Dry Spell in Phoenix: 116 Days Without Measurable Rain and No Relief in Sight

Record-breaking Dry Spell in Phoenix 116 Days Without Measurable Rain and No Relief in Sight

One of the driest lengths of time in Phoenix’s history, the city has had 116 days in a row without any rain that can be measured.

In spite of the fact that Christmas is just a week away, the weather forecasts indicate that there is no sign of relief in sight. The weather is projected to remain exceptionally warm and dry over the weekend.

With the most recent measurable rainfall happening on August 22, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Phoenix reports that the city is currently experiencing the thirteenth longest dry stretch in this city’s history.

Even though the forecast is for bright sky and calm breezes, this week’s high temperatures will continue to be above average, soaring to close to 80 degrees.

As we move closer to the week of Christmas, here is what you can anticipate:

Wednesday – Sunny skies with highs near 80 degrees. Light northeast winds around 5 mph will bring little change to conditions.
Thursday – Temperatures remain steady, with highs near 79 degrees and overnight lows dipping to 50 degrees under mostly clear skies.
Friday – Another sunny day is expected, with highs in the upper 70s and calm winds becoming light out of the east.
Saturday – Highs will settle near 77 degrees, with clear skies continuing and overnight lows in the upper 40s.
Sunday – A slight cooldown brings highs near 76 degrees, but dry conditions persist into the holiday week.
