A change in winter weather is on the way just ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday in Chicago.
Monday’s temperatures are expected to climb to 50 degrees, but a significant drop is on the horizon, with overnight lows dipping into the mid-20s. This shift will usher in much colder conditions and possibly wintry precipitation later this week.
Temperatures are expected to fall into the 30s, but the day should remain dry, as reported by NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Alicia Roman.
Forecasters are monitoring a system that may approach the region just before Thanksgiving. The system may bring rain and maybe some snow, though there is still a lot of uncertainty as the event draws near.
Roman reports that the system is expected to begin as primary rain on Wednesday afternoon, with a possibility of snow mixing in by the evening.
The National Weather Service reports that two storm systems are anticipated to move through the central U.S. this week, with a possibility of them merging.
“A merger could lead to a higher likelihood of wintry weather.” The NWS stated on X that a merger is unlikely, indicating that models are favoring the alternative scenario.
On Monday, Roman indicated that the higher likelihood of snow appears to be in regions east of Chicago, encompassing parts of Michigan and northwest Indiana.
Thanksgiving is expected to be chilly, with temperatures in the 30s. The trend of cooler temperatures will persist, with highs expected to fall into the 20s thereafter.
