Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of Enough Fentanyl to Kill 500,000 in Siskiyou County

A routine traffic stop for a vehicle code violation in Siskiyou County last Sunday led to the shocking discovery of a quantity of fentanyl capable of causing the deaths of over 500,000 individuals.

On November 17, a deputy from the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop due to violations of vehicle codes. A deputy approached the 22-year-old driver, Jose Cruz Mijangos from San Jose, to discuss the violations of vehicle codes.

Cruz Mijangos informed the deputy that he had secured the vehicle in Los Angeles and was heading north to see a friend in Eugene, Oregon.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office reported that a deputy observed something unusual in the seating area while searching the vehicle. The officer accessed the storage area and discovered a two-and-a-half-pound block of fentanyl.

Authorities report that the amount of fentanyl discovered is enough to supply over 535,000 deadly doses.

Cruz Mijangos has been apprehended and is now in custody at the Siskiyou County Jail, facing charges related to the possession and transportation of a controlled substance intended for sale.
