A Texas-based Investment Company Has Bought a European Football Franchise

Americans are on course to buy more than half of England’s prestigious Premier League. The Friedkin Group’s acquisition of Everton was 98.8% complete as of Thursday, according to KHOU.

Once completed, the deal will make the English football club the tenth in the league to be majority-owned by Americans out of twenty. Everton and the Friedkin Group have not announced the deal’s price. However, the BBC and other British news outlets estimate the team’s worth at more than 400 million pounds ($500 million).

Everton is a nine-time English champion but has not won a major prize since 1995. Time will tell if the Americans can turn the tide.

This is not Friedkin’s Group’s first rodeo in European football. The investing group also has the Italian club Roma in its portfolio. In addition to sports, the Friedkin Group invests in the automotive and entertainment industries.

“I take immense pride in welcoming one of England’s most historic football clubs to our global family,” stated Dan Friedkin, CEO of the Friedkin Group. “Everton represents a proud legacy, and we are honored to become custodians of this great institution.”
