Winter Weather Update Fog, Drizzle, and Colder Temperatures Sweep Across Michigan This Week

There will be a clearing of fog and drizzle overnight, following a moderate, but dreary, beginning to the work week on Monday. Despite this, clouds will continue to stick around, and low temperatures will drop to the middle of the 30s. To provide a point of reference, that is around where the high temperatures for the middle of December should be.

In the wake of the cold front that passed through on Monday night, Tuesday will be gloomy but quite dry. Even though we might catch a glimpse of sunshine every once in a while, we should anticipate that clouds will prevail, and temperatures will only return to the upper 30s.

A series of smaller disturbances will track out of Canada this week, each bringing progressively colder air and snow showers back across Michigan. This will pave the way for a series of smaller disturbances to track out of Canada.

It is anticipated that the initial of these disturbances will arrive late on Tuesday night and early on Wednesday morning.

In time for the commute on Wednesday morning, there will be a few snow showers that will break out, which will make driving in our neighborhoods significantly more hazardous. This afternoon, when the snow showers move out of the area, conditions will improve, and high temperatures will be in the middle of the 30s.

On Thursday afternoon, the next round of snow showers arrives, and they continue to persist until Friday morning.

Because this system is expected to last for a longer period, there is a possibility that snowfall accumulations of approximately one to two inches will be possible by midday on Friday, coupled with another round of severe travel conditions. It is expected that the highs will continue their downward trend, reaching approximately 30 on Thursday, and will only reach the upper 20s on Friday.

Early on Saturday morning, a final cold front passes within a few miles to the north of our homes. On Saturday and Sunday, maximum temperatures are forecast to remain in the low to mid-20s.

This storm is not predicted to produce any further snow, but it will bring in a final push of frigid air. There may be a few opportunities for sun over the final weekend before Christmas, but the skies will be generally gloomy to partly cloudy for the entire weekend.
